David Bierbach is a biologist. He has developed several experimental techniques to study animal behaviour in a standardised way, from video playbacks and computer animations to the use of bio-mimetic robots. He uses tropical freshwater fish, such as clonal mollies, guppies and sulphur mollies, to study social and collective behaviour both in the laboratory as well as in the wild. His research helps to understand social processes, information processing in groups and ultimately collective intelligence.
