David B. Blumenthal is a tenure track assistant professor and head of the Biomedical Network Science Lab at FAU Erlangen-Nürnberg. He and his team design algorithms and tools to mine molecular data for mechanisms driving complex diseases, using techniques from network science, machine learning, and combinatorial optimization. They also develop privacy-aware decentralized biomedical machine learning methods, and are interested in meta-scientific questions such as reproducibility and the impact of data bias on biomedical AI systems. Before joining FAU, David B. Blumenthal studied mathematics and philosophy at FU and TU Berlin, did a PhD in computer science at the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at TUM.
