9th Berlin Science Week 2024 Calls For Participation
- Scientists, research institutions, universities, NGOs and art projects or artists working in the fields of science, technology and innovation are invited to submit their programme and event proposals for Berlin Science Week 2024 by 31 July
- With the annual theme of ‘Common Ground‘, the festival focuses on the unifying role of science in creating empirical foundations for discussing the major issues of our time
- In addition to the submission of self-organised decentralised events, the two festival locations Museum für Naturkunde and Holzmarkt 25 once again offer interested partner institutions a wide range of participation opportunities to implement their own formats
- On 1 and 2 November, the Museum für Naturkunde will open its doors at the festival hub CAMPUS
- The programme of the festival hub Science & Culture FORUM from 3 to 10 November at Holzmarkt 25 focuses on the interplay between art, science & culture
- For the first time, Berlin Science Week is also offering the opportunity to apply for the curated, invitation-only programme on 9-10 November at the festival hub FORUM at Holzmarkt 25

Berlin, 23 Mai 2024 – The international festival, Berlin Science Week, invites researchers, institutions, NGOs, and artists to submit their programme and event proposals on the topics of science, technology, and innovation. The application process begins on 1 June and is open until 31 July at www.berlinscienceweek.com/get-involved. Especially welcome are transdisciplinary and interactive, dialogue-based approaches, and event formats developed and organised independently or in collaboration with partners from national or international research institutions, foundations, museums, associations, civil society organisations, science engagement initiatives, and companies. Taking place from 1 to 10 November 2024, the festival promotes open spaces for discourse and interdisciplinary exchange on scientific ideas and their societal significance. For the first time, in addition to decentralized events throughout Berlin and the partner programmes at the two festival locations, there will also be a curated in-house programme on 9 and 10 November. The festival programme includes a variety of discourse-based formats ranging from workshops and debates to art interventions and multimedia exhibitions.
In the Science Year 2024 – Freedom, the two festival hubs, CAMPUS at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin and FORUM at Holzmarkt 25, will focus on the annual theme of ‘Common Ground’. Festival Director Christian Rauch explains, “In an increasingly polarised society, we want to use this year’s theme to highlight the crucial role of science in establishing widely accepted empirical foundations for discussing the big questions of our time.” Berlin Science Week, held at various venues across the city and through interactive online events, is a dynamic platform promoting public discussion on science and research and their role in building a better future for everyone. On 1 and 2 November, the Museum für Naturkunde will open its doors at the festival hub CAMPUS. “We want to celebrate science together, get people excited about nature and research, engage in dialogue with each other and shape the future. That’s why we are delighted to have had Berlin Science Week as a partner and the CAMPUS at the Berlin Museum of Natural History for many years!” explains Johannes Vogel, Director General of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin. Part of the programme at the festival hub FORUM will focus on the interplay between art, science & culture and will take place at Holzmarkt 25. Juval Dietziger, Managing Director of Holzmarkt 25, says, “We are proud to be working with the Falling Walls Foundation to create spaces for science communication that encourage active engagement and enable experimental formats. One of the guiding principles of our urban development approach is to bring together people from diverse backgrounds to try out new things together. The combination of creativity and science across traditional boundaries is therefore particularly suited to unconventional locations such as the Holzmarkt.”

In addition to fostering exchanges between science and society, Berlin Science Week also facilitates dialogues among researchers, research institutions, and various stakeholders from business, politics, and civil society. This makes it a vibrant networking platform throughout the year. To achieve this, Berlin Science Week supports participating organizations with a series of events leading up to the festival. These events offer networking and training opportunities. This initiative will further enhance the mutual exchange that Berlin Science Week cultivates, particularly in the realms of research-based startups, urban development within the science sector, and the cultural and creative industries.
