Lieke van de Haar works as an EMBO postdoctoral fellow in the group of Nikolaus Rajewsky at the Berlin Institute for Medical Systems Biology at the Max Delbrück Center (MDC-BIMSB). She applies single-cell and spatial transcriptomic methods to study how cancer starts, progresses and metastasizes in both human tumors as well as cancer mouse models. She also advocates for LGBTQI+ inclusion in science. Lieke van der Haar studied Biomedical Sciences (BSc) and Neurosciences (MSc) at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. During this time, she the role of microRNAs in epilepsy at the University Medical Center Utrecht. Also, she investigated the role of extracellular vesicles in glioblastoma at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA. She obtained her PhD from Utrecht University studying mouse brain development using single-cell transcriptomic approaches.
