Power and Piety: Religion, Politics and the University

“Must religion be anti-democratic?”

The world’s current political environment, especially autocratic trends surfacing over Europe and trying to infiltrate Israel, raise the question about the mutual historical and essential contacts between Power and Piety: Religion, Politics.

In this context comes to the fore the responsibility universities have in explaining the background, stressing the understanding of the phenomena and suggesting ways of confronting the new challenges.

An expert panel comprised of four renowned scientists: Prof. Nili Cohen, Prof. Menahem Ben Sasson, Prof. Christoph Markschies and Prof. Gudrun Kraemer, will refer to the wrong thought that religion must be anti-democratic and point to the democratic principles that must build the basis for any scientific development.. Each of the panelists will contribute their personal expertise and experience as to how to cope with the current crises.
