Unmasking Gender Bias in AI: From Code to Consequences

Women in AI & Robotics | Maisam Madi, Gabriela Cortes, Indara Millan, Agata Płucienik

Revealing the Hidden Algorithms Shaping Our Future

How can an artificially intelligent system even have a gender bias? In this event, we will talk about how bias existing in the real world gets mirrored in AI-based systems, with a focus on gender bias and what this means for girls and women. We will discuss the different phases in the development of AI systems, how bias can always “slip through the cracks” as well as possible solutions. Finally, we will use GenerativeAI to take our audience through an example that makes this issue more concrete and sheds light on the far-reaching implications it could have on us and society as a whole. This event will take place in an informative lecture format with room and time to address questions from the audience.
