Connor Smieja

Dr. Connor Śmieja is a postdoc in Prof. Till Schäberle’s group at Justus Liebig University Giessen, where he develops semisynthetic natural product derivatives as novel antibiotics. 

He gained his MChem in Chemistry with Drug Discovery at the University of Bath, with an industrial placement at GSK in medicinal chemistry, then completed his PhD at the University of Edinburgh with Prof. Alison N. Hulme. 

He leads the Germany–Mexico Natural Product Alliance (GEMEX-NAT), working with international collaborators towards the goal of combating global challenges. Since its successful seminal workshop in February 2026, he is now further building its momentum.
