Across talks, performances, screenings, workshops, and experimental formats, art-science runs throughout the festival programme, drawing out the rhythms and textures of science. Here, a finding becomes a sensation, a method becomes a material, and form and content become truly inseparable.
Curiosity and wonder don't belong to science alone. They live in scientists and artists alike, both researchers in their respective fields, moving through the same unknown with different tools. Together, they generate new insights and perspectives that enrich both scientific inquiry and artistic practice. Whether you come with a professional interest in art-science or are coming across the field for the first time, art-science events are where you can experience what happens when different ways of knowing and making meet.

While art-science can be found throughout the festival programme, our Festival Centre, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW) is home to our curated Art & Science Programme. Day 2 in particular is designed for art-science professionals, connecting current debates and insights in the field with practical opportunities for networking and collaboration.
From keynotes with leading voices and institutions in Europe to hands-on workshops and mentoring sessions, this day is built for artists, researchers, art-science practitioners, and institutions looking to connect and develop new ideas.

Fertile Void is a series of events hosted by Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW). This year, Fertile Void takes place during Berlin Science Week, over the course of the Festival Centre weekend, from 6–8 November 2026. Contributors including Nicole L'Huillier, Amanda Piña, Carolina Cifras, Muindi Fanuel Muindi, Sha Xin Wei, and Cécile Malaspina approach quantum listening across performances, keynote conversations, workshops, sonic essays, and discussions.

Open to researchers, artists, and art–science practitioners, the programme offers a unique opportunity to share your work with thousands of visitors at one of Germany's most renowned cultural institutions, HKW.
