Volunteer with us
Get behind the scenes of Germany’s biggest science festival. Applications close 5 October 2025.
This autumn, Berlin Science Week is once again putting science and innovation at the forefront of the city’s cultural calendar — and we need your help to make it happen. We're looking for around 30 enthusiastic volunteers to support us in delivering an exciting programme of over 300 events across Berlin.
As a festival volunteer, you’ll be part of the team that brings the festival to life. You’ll help with logistics at our Festival Hubs, assist with guest registration and visitor support, and help us encourage visitors to explore and engage with our interactive digital platform Futures Canvas.
If you’re passionate about science, enjoy working with people, and ideally have some experience in science communication or event organisation, we’d love to hear from you. You should feel comfortable communicating in English or German, or both!

- Network and join an interdisciplinary community: Connect with passionate people from diverse backgrounds who share your curiosity and enthusiasm for science.
- Get paid for your time: Earn 14 euros per hour while contributing to an exciting city-wide cultural event.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Volunteers must have permission to work in a freelance or independent capacity in Berlin. Since this is a paid opportunity and we cannot accept unpaid work, this permission is essential.
No prior experience in event or guest management is required, but you should feel comfortable speaking either English or German so you can confidently help guide our visitors.
We’re looking for people who are enthusiastic about science. A background in research, science communication, or academia is a plus but not a must.
Applications close on 5 October. All selected volunteers must attend the online briefing on 17 October from 2-3PM (CEST).
To help you feel prepared and confident, we’ll host a short information session ahead of the festival. The mandatory 1-hour online briefing will take place on 17 October, from 2-3PM (CEST). The session will be held in English and cover everything you need to know. Additional on-site briefings will be integrated into your shifts.
You’ll be working shifts between 1-10 November depending on your availability. Shift planning will be discussed during the briefing. Signing up for shifts will only be possible once you have attended the briefing.
All volunteers receive a Berlin Science Week t-shirt or hoodie to wear on duty — and to keep afterward!
