For the scientists of tomorrow.
Science begins with curiosity — the deep desire to know why, or how, or when, or where — and there's no one better at asking those questions than children. As the discoverers of today, they're the scientists of tomorrow, and this year, at Berlin Science Week, they'll find answers to their questions and bring new ones home.
For the very first time, Berlin Science Week has a programme designed just for kids and families at its Festival Centre, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (HKW). On Saturday and Sunday mornings, on 7 and 8 November 2026, families with children between ages 4 and 12 will have a space to encounter science directly in hands-on activities, book readings, quizzes, and live shows.
Expect a weekend packed with wonder: count down before liftoff to train for a flight into space with the German Aerospace Centre. Listen to TV presenter Clarissa Corrêa da Silva, known from Sendung mit der Maus, unpack what genes have to do with curly hair and freckles, then test your family's science smarts in her quiz. Or step into a giant, walking game of Operation and explore the human body from the inside out. Most events are in German. All events are free, though a free 3-Day Festival Centre pass is required.
DLR_Raumfahrt Show: Eine Zeitreise in die Zukunft

Will we soon be living on Mars? Will there be hotels in space? The DLR Space Show gives a live look at what researchers are working on right now, with giant smoke rings, a heat-camera experiment on stage, and a full-room countdown to lift-off. Presenters share real insights from the German Aerospace Centre, from next-generation aircraft to new ideas for transport and energy, with two public performances for families on Sunday, 8 November.

EXPLORE OUR EXHIBITION STANDS
Put on an exoskeleton, peer at Saturn's rings through a telescope, or discover how a shrimp's shell becomes a piece of clothing. Here, you can get hands-on, chat with researchers in English or German, and see science at work. The exhibition stands are open every day at the Festival Centre with varying hours:
Friday 6 November: 13:00 – 18:00
