Selen Solak (she/her) is an artist with a background in painting and a researcher in natural sciences. Her artistic practice spans various media – publishing (zines, print), photography, and video—across both personal and collaborative works, critically engaging the space between art and science to explore everyday relations, scientific environments, and technologies. Her work is mainly image-driven, exploring the poetic connotations of what is excluded, or perhaps already spoken, and how to return to it. She reflects on how politics shape the intimate, focusing on structures in childhood and friendship.
Her scientific research is experimental, focused on energy devices, mainly next-generation solar cells and materials. Beyond this, she is interested in situating her scientific research within historical and future contexts, narratives, and the forces that shape them.
Her work has been shown primarily in artist-run spaces, as well as at Art Laboratory Berlin and the daad Gallery, among other venues. She was recently a postdoctoral researcher at Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin in the physics and chemistry departments.
