Geographies of Home: How Do We Hold Grounded Spaces When Everything Keeps Changing?
As part of Berlin Science Week, join us at Acker Stadt Palast, a self-organized community-cultural space in Mitte, for a workshop exploring how to nurture spaces that hold multiple ways of living. The workshop draws on two recent collective projects: the BodySpace magazine on gestures of home-making and the Glossary of Land, a collection of intimate and insurgent land practices.
The evening opens with an embodied mapping exercise, in which participants situate themselves in relation to the places and trajectories in Berlin where they feel at home. We then turn to the Glossary of Land and its translocal notions, asking what “land,” “terra,” and “Boden” carry when they travel between languages and histories. The evening closes with a poetry exercise that narrates spatial gestures grounded in the participants’ own experiences, moving from individual stories toward a shared understanding of how we craft lively spaces of intimacy. We will end by celebrating the recent publications of BodySpace and The earth we tread.
