Forecast hosts Fiona Raby: Designing When Spacetime Is Doomed

Forecast

“We use design to ask questions about the kinds of worlds we want to live in.”

Designer Fiona Raby will discuss how design can be seen as a tool to ask questions about the kinds of worlds we want to live in, and to engage with multiple imaginations.

When we recently tried to explain what we do to a colleague of ours in the humanities, he said, ‘Oh, so you design for non existent worlds?’” says Raby. “We hadn’t thought of it like that, but yes! I think that’s pretty much what we do. At Dunne & Raby, we think of it as designing for the ‘Not Here, Not Now’.

Raby, who was a mentor at Forecast Mentorships’ 2024-25 edition, will share her insights on the role of expertise in exploring the unknown and contradictory, and knowledge transfer among peers through common imagining.  Followed by a conversation with Forecast's Executive Editor, Hili Perlson.
