No Kitchen is an Island: A (Carefully) Optimistic Brunch in the Uncanny Valley of Digitized Food

Technische Universität Berlin, Bildung für Nachhaltige Ernährung und Lebensmittelwissenschaft

Food is one of the main battlefields between our desires and planetary boundaries. No Kitchen is an Island serves algorithmic food to facilitate negotiation between diverse More-than-Human needs

Should I suspect I am a mediocre cook? After all, statistically, most of us are; that is how averages work. Incidentally, the average cook is also the generic user: searching for what to cook online, quantified to a tee by observant algorithms in their eternal servitude to virality.

We cook and eat what algorithms serve us, digesting average food to build our mediocre cells.

The project is an experiment in algorithmic biohacking. It amplifies more-than-human needs by triggering beneficial mutations in our average recipes. The digestion of these evolved dishes results in less resource-intensive bodies. Food is one of the main battlefields between our desires and planetary boundaries. No Kitchen is an Island attempts to facilitate negotiation.

Come to our brunch, try out contemporary German food as interpreted by algorithms, and take an active part in our experiment.
Don’t be a user.
