Post-Urban Paranoia
How does a hyper-connected society get under our skin? Post-Urban Paranoia is a multimedia piece for three performers and a video screen, created by the Brazilian theatre company Cia. Espelho dos Olhos and adapted for the Medientheater at Humboldt-Universität.
Weaving together theatre, dance, music, video art, and artificial intelligence, the performance builds a hybrid narrative about life in the contemporary metropolis. It traces how the pressures of digital society — constant connectivity, isolation, subtle violence, and the paranoia of permanent self-performance — become physically inscribed into our bodies and our everyday routines. Seen through a post-urban lens, the work also opens up urgent questions of gender, age, and representation in an ageing digital society.
Developed primarily by women artists, the piece approaches the stage as a site of research. Audiences are invited to encounter the central questions of our digital present not only intellectually, but physically and emotionally — to feel them rather than simply think them.
