Sebastian is a geologist by training and received his diploma from Free University Berlin (FU Berlin). He then joined the German Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam (GFZ Potsdam) as a research associate. In 2013, he finished his PhD at Technical University of Berlin (TU Berlin) with a thesis on geological CO2 storage. Following a post-doc position at GFZ Potsdam, he moved to the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) in 2014, where he worked as a research associate on topics like geological CO2 storage and subsurface use potentials. From 2022 to 2024, he was delegated to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) to work on the German Carbon Management-Strategy as well as on the legal framework for CCS/CCU in Germany. Recently, Sebastian returned to BGR to work as a policy advisor for carbon management to the German Government.
