Russ Hodge is a science writer and teacher at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in Berlin-Buch. There he runs the Science Communication Teacher Training program (SCOTT), an advanced seminar in the theory and practice of science communication and teaching. His career in science communication began in 1997, when he was hired to launch the Office of Information and Public Affairs at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg. He is the author of hundreds of articles, ten popular books on themes related to molecular biology, and is co-author on a dozen scientific papers and advanced grants. His most recent book is Remarkable: what animals teach us about ourselves, the value of diversity and saving the world, which has just been published under the title Lebenskünstler by Galiani Verlag Berlin. Russ runs a popular blog devoted to "The good, the bad and the completely ridiculous" in science communication, at www.goodsciencewriting.com. The site hosts hundreds of cartoons, original artworks and pieces at the intersection of science and humor, including "The Evolution of Pizza," which was published in the Journal of Improbable Research. He has also written and illustrated a children's book on evolution. Russ has degrees in psychology, linguistics and ancient music. He performs professionally and has recorded 10 CDs on historical stringed instruments including the viola da gamba and medieval vielle.
