Prof. Dr. Martin Welp is Chair of Socioeconomics and Communication and Head of the International Master’s program in Global Change Management at Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development’s Faculty of Wood Engineering. As a research professor, he specializes in social-ecological transformations with a focus on Asia and also serves as the Academic Director of the Biosphere Reserve Institute. With a doctoral degree from the Technical University Berlin and a master’s from the University of Helsinki, his early career includes roles at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, where he focused on global change and social systems. Prof. Welp has led numerous international projects addressing sustainable resource management, ecosystem services, and climate adaptation, particularly in Central and South Asia. His projects include innovative climate finance in Asian cities, improving energy efficiency through agroforestry, and transdisciplinary studies on environmental change and resource conflicts in Eastern Europe. His research supports sustainable approaches to climate resilience, involving local stakeholders in capacity building and land and water management initiatives.
