Marcus is a PhD student at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Potsdam, where he develops accurate models for the gravitational waves emitted by binary neutron star systems. To do so, he tries to understand the effects of matter at the most extreme temperatures, densities and within the strongest gravitational field in the universe. These influences can then be used to predict the fate of neutron stars which are dancing with each other in a binary system. His goal is to eventually measure these predictions in future gravitational wave detectors, to learn more about matter and gravity at its most extreme. Originally from Lutherstadt Wittenberg, in between Berlin and Leipzig, Marcus completed his undergraduate studies in Physics at the ETH Zurich in Switzerland.
