Lucca Valerius is a PhD student at the Humboldt-University and works at Ferdinand Braun Institut, where she explores how quantum physics can be used to build the communication technologies of tomorrow. She works with tiny defects in diamond—so-called color centers—that act as stable sources of single light particles. By shaping the diamond material with great precision, she studies how these light sources can be controlled and improved. After completing her master’s in physics at RWTH Aachen University, she recently moved to Berlin to begin her doctoral research and is excited about technological applications of quantum physics.
