James R. Wootton

James R. Wootton is Chief Scientific Officer at Moth Quantum in Basel, Switzerland. After receiving his PhD from the University of Leeds in 2010, he went on to continue working as a researcher in error correction for quantum computers at the University of Basel. In 2016 he launched an outreach project, Decodoku, to crowd-source his research as a citizen science game. This work at the intersection of quantum computing and games then transitioned to running simple games on the newly available cloud-based quantum computers of IBM Quantum. After moving to IBM Quantum, and then to Moth, Wootton's research focuses on developing applications of quantum computers for games, music and visual arts. He also continues to lecture at the University of Basel, where he received a Habilitation in 2023.
