Hernán Andrés Morales-Navarrete is a physicist developing machine learning applications and computational models for biological systems, with a focus on embryonic development and tissue analysis. He is currently a research professor at Universidad de Las Américas in Quito, Ecuador. He earned his PhD with summa cum laude distinction from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Dresden, Germany, where his research focused on reconstructing and quantitatively analyzing liver tissue organization. His interdisciplinary work spans computational biology, bioimage analysis, and AI-driven approaches for understanding complex biological systems. Hernán has contributed to pioneering studies recognized as part of Nature Methods’ “Method of the Year 2023” and has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Nature, Nature Methods, and eLife. His current focus is on advancing AI methodologies for biological research and fostering scientific innovation in Ecuador.
