Henning Metzmacher is a postdoctoral researcher at the Game Technology Center at ETH Zurich. He holds a Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence from Maastricht University and a Doctorate in Natural Sciences from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at RWTH Aachen University, where his dissertation focused on the control of personalized thermal conditioning systems. His current research explores realistic digital avatars powered by large language models, with an emphasis on voice and animation synthesis, traditional mesh-based rendering methods, as well as drivable Gaussian Splatting and hybrid AI-based visualization techniques. He is particularly interested in enhancing the visual and interactive realism of digital avatars—combining artistic sensibility with cutting-edge technology to improve human–avatar interaction across domains.
