Elizabeth Hughes is a publications manager in Dept. II of the Max Planck Institute of the History of Science. Coming from a background in art history, visual culture, and studio art, her work in the history of science has led to a particular interest in organizing and supporting cross-disciplinary projects. As a member of the former Max Planck Research Group Practices of Validation in the Biomedical Sciences, she co-led the Working Group “Biomedical Visions: Aesthetics, Epistemology, and Medical Practice,” a project between scholars and artists that examines how images fundamentally shape medical and public understanding of illness and health. The resulting edited volume is slated for publication in spring of 2025.
