Elisabeth Herrmann is a Professor of German Studies, specializing in literature and culture from the 18th to 21st centuries. She completed her PhD on Goethe’s Elective Affinities and later focused on literary and cultural border-crossers. After holding positions at the Albert-Ludwigs University Freiburg, the University of Alberta and Stockholm University, she joined the University of Warwick in 2018 as Chair of German Studies. Her research is distinguished by its transnational and interdisciplinary approach. She currently works on the concept of social energy and how literature and cultural representations impact social imaginaries and our notions of the present time and future. Professor Herrmann also serves as chair of the Tenure Board at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
