Denise Margaret Matias is a Professor at the Faculty of Forest and Environment at the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development. Apart from teaching, she is also leading a project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation called ZooMap focusing on socio-cultural drivers of wildlife consumption and trade of two endangered species in Mongolia and the Philippines, where she is originally from. She was recognised this year as one of five Planet Earth Awardees by the Alliance of World Scientists (AWS) for her outreach work with Indigenous communities in the Philippines.
