Carlos Ernesto Choc is a Maya-Q'eqchi' journalist and human rights defender from El Estor, Guatemala. He is known for his courageous work in documenting environmental conflicts and defending indigenous rights, particularly in relation to the extractive activities of the Guatemalan Nickel Company (CGN) in Maya-Q'eqchi land. Choc has been the target of judicial harassment and criminalization since 2017, facing charges related to his coverage of protests against mining operations.
