Alex Ungprateeb Flynn is Associate Professor of Art and Anthropology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and is currently a Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Kolleg inherit. heritage in transformation at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Working across ethnographic and curatorial inquiry, his research explores prefiguration, diasporic identities, and the making of alternative worlds. He is the author of Pathways to Utopia (Indiana University Press, 2025) and Taking Form, Making Worlds (University of Texas Press, 2022), and editor of Unmaking to Make (UCL Press, 2026). An anthropologist, curator, and art theorist, his exhibitions include Metamorphosis in Gold (Warin Lab, Bangkok, 2026), Construction, Occupation (Fowler Museum, Los Angeles, 2025), and Cartoneras: Re-leituras Latino-Americanas (Casa do Povo, São Paulo, 2019). His curatorial work with São Paulo’s Cambridge Artistic Residency was recognized with the APCA Trophy, one of Brazil’s leading cultural awards.
