About Us
Berlin Science Week has been established in 2016 against the backdrop of the international Falling Walls Science Summit, which takes place annually on 7–9 November in Berlin. The Summit honours the year’s best scientific breakthroughs and provides a stage to discuss the solutions science may offer in combating the biggest challenges of our time. With renowned scientists and global leaders from politics, business, and media in town, Berlin Science Week was established to share the achievements, impulses, and impacts created by the global science community beyond the walls of the Summit.
Since then, Berlin Science Week has evolved into an extensive festival, now spanning over 10 days with more than 200 events, involving 150 organisations and taking place across 80 locations. We are especially excited about our newest addition, the Science & Culture FORUM at Holzmarkt 25, which highlights the intersection of art and science—a theme deeply resonant with the city of Berlin. This year, for the first time, we were able to invite curated programmes, and we look forward to expanding this in the coming years.
As part of the Falling Walls Foundation, we also want to draw attention to the other exciting projects within our organisation. From Female Science Talents to the Creative Bureaucracy Festival and the Falling Walls Summit, the foundation offers numerous impactful initiatives aimed at breaking down barriers.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our partners, especially the Berlin Senate, without whom none of this would have been possible.
GUIDING PRINCIPLES
At Berlin Science Week, we believe high-quality science is for everyone, breaking down barriers and igniting discovery. Embracing inter- and transdisciplinarity, we highlight topics beyond traditional "hard" science, focusing on socially relevant issues.
Our programme welcomes contributions from all fields, including social sciences and humanities, with a firm emphasis on thorough, verifiable research. We create lively, engaging events that reshape science's narrative, catering to a diverse audience eager to engage in important discussions or enjoy intelligent entertainment.
We are committed to diversity, inclusion, and sustainability, fostering a space where all voices can flourish while upholding scientific excellence. We encourage open dialogue, respectful exchange of ideas, and welcome diverse perspectives. We do not tolerate hate speech, discrimination, or political propaganda in any form. Respect, inclusivity, and scientific integrity are our guiding principles.
