XENOPIA

ALMA Futura

Can open science and biohacking support feminist movements and reproductive justice?

XENOPIA is an art-based research project born as a visceral response to the anger felt as women, artists, and researchers in the face of an increasing tightening by political institutions toward reproductive rights. The project is named after the frog Xenopus Laevis, a living interface that has been exploited as a pregnancy test for decades.

Putting at the center the co-creative power of communities what kind of future can be imagined for safe abortion, self-care and pregnancy? And what kind of synergies emerges when open-science, art, hacking and feminism come together?

Auditors will be guided through a fascinating journey that investigates hormones, pregnancy monitoring, feminist technologies and open-science tools to promote abortion care practices and autonomy.

The project started in 2024, through the IMPETUS4CS kickstarting funding and is now currently an indipendent self-funded project.
