From Waste to Wearables: Speculative Design Workshop on More-Than-Human Sensing

Tangible Media Group, Media Lab , MIT, Digital Health, Hasso Plattner Institute

What if you could hear air pollution? What if you could feel the vibrations of bumblebee wings? Can we build wearables for humans that let us tune into a different life cycle?

We use our senses to navigate the world. What if we could extend our senses to navigate the more-than-human world? Based on cutting-edge green electronics research, we invite you to speculate on which hidden signals you wish to sense.

In this workshop, participants will learn about bio-based materials for computing, artworks on extending human sensing, build their own speculative wearables, and reflect on how we can bring awareness to the unseen.

Bring your curiosity! Be ready to get your hands dirty and senses sharpened. Leave this workshop seeing the planet through different eyes!

Note: Our reserved seats have now all been taken – thank you for the great interest! But not to worry: we always keep a number of seats available for spontaneous guests. So even without a reservation, you’re very welcome to come along.
