Tech Tales by Living the Forest Lab

Reallabor Wald, Stabstelle Science and Society, Stage Design and Scenography, M.A., Technische Universität Berlin, Universität der Künste Berlin

Discover Tech Tales: an immersive exhibition blending art, science & technology to explore forests, ecology & digital futures — opening at TU Berlin’s UNI_VERSUM.

The exhibition TechTales engages with the topics of ecological knowledge and digital literacy through scenographic means. TechTales is a collaboration between the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (Department of Communication Systems), the Master’s degree program in Stage Design and Scenography and the Science & Society office at the Executive board of the TU Berlin.

The Living the Forest Lab research initiative, which is funded by the Foundation for Innovation in Higher Education, focuses on knowledge transfer and forest fire prevention.

The exhibition aims to emphasize the importance of forests for biodiversity and climate regulation, as well as the mitigation of climate change. It also aims to emphasize the need to explore alternative epistemologies – those that recognize the agency of plants, animals, and machines – and how these might inform more relational and reciprocal modes of technological development.

The exhibited projects delve into the intricate connections between nature and culture by experimenting with multi-perspective approaches to environmental sensing and playing with different forms of data visualization. TechTales brings scientific topics to life through artistic installations and interactive elements, thus raising ecological awareness and communicating science.
Ultimately, the aim is to create an immersive space to dream about possible futures and discuss how we can actively shape them in just and sustainable ways.

The exhibition will be presented in the UNI_VERSUM in the main building of the TUB and will open during Berlin Science Week at the beginning of November 2025. The UNI_VERSUM is running a pilot phase for the TULIUM project and is trialling various formats that will later be continued in the exhibition and event spaces.
