Cells’ Ears
Immersed in an intimate sonic environment, you share the space with a culture of living human heart cells observed under a microscope. Projected live into the room, the cells reveal their rhythms, movements, colours and reactions as the experiment unfolds.
Through live singing, spoken word, poetry and music, artist Sofia Boarino/LOTO performs while regenerative medicine researcher Dr Melanie Generali observes the cells’ behaviour in real time. As the cells are exposed to the vocal performance, so is every-body in the room.
Combining the live performative experiment with an open conversation, Cells' Ears invites you to experience sound as a physical force moving through living matter, through cells, and to consider how artistic expression may reach deeper into your biology than you ever imagined.
