Louis Jawad is a British-Bahraini glass artist and sculptor known for blending traditional craftsmanship with sustainable and contemporary glass design. Born in1995, his work engages with local materials and sustainability as core concepts,exploring the relationship between natural resources, cultural heritage, and modern innovation. With a Master’s in Architectural and Contemporary Glass, Louis Jawad creates innovative glasswork that reflects themes of culture, light, and environmental responsibility.
Inspired by the interplay of light and form, Louis Jawad’s sculptures often feature optical crystal glass, chosen for its exceptional purity and high refractive index. His pieces manipulate light to create dynamic visual experiences that shift with the viewer’s perspective. Themes of faith, sustainability, and cultural identity are central to his work, drawing inspiration from Islamic philosophy, Dante’s Inferno, and the architectural heritage of Bahrain.
Since 2018, Louis Jawad has been actively creating custom glass sculptures for private clients, public installations, and exhibitions. His work has been displayed at venues such as Swansea Business School, the Volcano Art Gallery in the UK, and theFifty-First Bahrain Fine Arts Exhibition. He has also collaborated with the LiverpoolYouth Centre on notable projects, showcasing his ability to merge artistic vision with community engagement.
In addition to his artistic practice, Louis Jawad has shared his expertise as a visiting lecturer at institutions such as Swansea University, the Bahrain Craft Centre, and Al Jasra Handicraft Centre. His deep understanding of glass sculpture and engineering has contributed to high-profile projects, including glassworks for international boutiques and cultural institutions, further solidifying his reputation as a leading figure in glass art and design.
Louis Jawad’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond his art. As the Business Manager of a family-owned architectural stained-glass business, he has implemented innovative techniques and sustainable practices in glass design and production. His forward-thinking approach ensures that his work not only captivates visually but also aligns with principles of environmental responsibility.
