Dr. Juraj Paule is head of herbarium collections at the Berlin Botanical Garden and Botanical Museum (BGBM), where he oversees the phanerogam herbarium collection in particular. Trained in Slovakia, the UK, and Germany, he earned his PhD at Heidelberg University in 2010. Before joining the BGBM, he conducted research in the field of molecular systematics at the Senckenberg Natural History Museum in Frankfurt.

His work explores how plants evolve and adapt — from hybridisation and polyploidy to the systematics of different groups within the rose family, bromeliads, and European tree species. Beyond research, he is passionate about preserving the “memory of the plant world”: the herbarium collections that document global biodiversity and serve as a vital resource for science and society alike.
