He has twenty-five years of experience in the Mexican public sector, having worked with six federal government ministries, as well as two Mexico City government agencies.
Gerardo began his public administration career at the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), focusing on budget policy. Subsequently, he held positions in the international affairs divisions of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Public Administration.
He spent twelve years at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE), initially assigned to the Mexican Embassy in Washington, D.C., where he played a key role in the Mexico–US bilateral agenda for nearly a decade. More recently, he headed the Mexican Cultural Institute of New York.
Currently serves as Director General for Institutional and Sectoral Cooperation at the Ministry of Science, Humanities, Technology, and Innovation (SECIHTI), where he oversees the Ministry's international agenda.
Gerardo Tamayo holds a Bachelor´s degree in Economics from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and a Master’s degree in International Political Economy from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom.
