Mark Mescher

Professor Mark Mescher is a biologist at ETH Zurich in Switzerland where he is co-director the Biocommunication Research Group. His research focuses on the role of communication in interactions among species. In addition to exploring the role of sensory cues and signals in interactions among plants and insects, he has investigated how malaria and other pathogens affect human odors and the implications for disease transmission by insect vectors. Work from Professor Mescher’s group has been the subject of several documentary films and television programs, as well as numerous articles in the scientific and popular press. In addition to research, Prof. Mescher has taught several courses on animal behavior and evolution, and has written about the broader role of information in biology.
