Who Belongs in Science?

Most scientists didn't grow up knowing they would become scientists. She Measures the Earth follows four women whose journeys into science began in unexpected ways. Moving between glaciers, forests, dance studios and family life, the film asks a simple question: who gets to belong in science? It was nominated for the Lindalee Tracey Award at Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival and for Best Short Film at Australia's SCINEMA International Science Film Festival.

After the 18-minute screening, continue the conversation with Justine Berg, a snow hydrologist researching water in glacier-fed mountain environments, and Fabienne Meier, an environmental scientist and photographer who combines Earth science with visual storytelling. Both are instructors with Girls on Ice Switzerland*, where science, creativity and mountain exploration come together to inspire young people.

Together, they'll share the unexpected paths that led them into science, the moments that almost changed those paths, and why they believe curiosity matters more than having all the answers.

The event concludes with a hands-on science activity and audience discussion.
