In Touch with the Heart of Matter

How can we learn about something we cannot see? This booth invites visitors of all ages to discover the invisible particles and fields that shape the world around us—and how scientists learn about them by studying collisions at particle colliders.

Visitors will explore how experiments at CERN’s Large Hadron Collider investigate fundamental particles and their interactions, including the Higgs boson, and what they can reveal about matter and the early Universe. How much do we know about the Higgs boson and its interactions with other particles—and could a deeper understanding of it help unlock some of the biggest unanswered questions about our Universe? Visitors will also encounter the human story behind Big Science: the scientists, engineers and many other professionals who collaborate across countries, disciplines and generations to make these discoveries possible.

Looking ahead, the booth will introduce the High-Luminosity LHC and efforts to design a possible Future Circular Collider, which could allow scientists to study the Higgs boson and other particles with even greater precision. It will also show how technologies developed for fundamental research can travel beyond the laboratory and into everyday life.
