Shared Futures: How Deep Time and Indigenous Knowledge Can Help Us Navigate the Anthropocene

The exhibition stand will present the Perspectives from the Global South on the Anthropocene initiative, highlighting how Indigenous knowledge systems and traditional practices contribute to biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, and regenerative futures.

The stand will combine large-format educational panels, interactive activities, and short audiovisual narratives to engage visitors with diverse ways of understanding and caring for the living world. The exhibition will explore two interconnected themes: resilient food systems and biodiversity practices.

The first section will highlight the diversity of agricultural systems across the Global South, exploring the origins of crops, traditional food systems, and their role in adapting to environmental change. Through an interactive “supermarket activity,” visitors will reflect on the global journeys of everyday food products and consider how climate change and biodiversity loss may affect future food availability.

The second section will focus on Indigenous approaches to biodiversity care and ecosystem resilience, presenting case studies from different regions through maps, visual materials, and interactive activities. Visitors will explore connections between species and ecosystems through a biodiversity network activity and create their own ecosystem collages.

A dedicated audiovisual component will feature a series of short videos, including interviews with Indigenous knowledge holders and researchers, alongside fieldwork footage and landscape narratives. These stories will provide personal perspectives on relationships between people, biodiversity, and the environment.
