We invite you to try out our speech and text anonymization tool, and share your thoughts about the topic - What data is acceptable for sharing? From who, to whom? For what purpose?

Conversations between people can contain vast amounts of useful information for medical research. Whether a recorded interview between researcher and research participant, or between doctor and patient, these conversations can reveal a great deal of valuable insights to improve research and healthcare. But conversations are complex - How can we anonymize such conversations, at scale, in an ethical manner?
In this interactive workshop, you will get to test our transcription tool and discover just how difficult, or surprisingly easy, it can be to recognize someone from the way they speak, even after their data has been removed. Through this challenge, you will explore questions around privacy, identity, and digital technology in an engaging way.

This event is part of the VERANDA research project (funded by the BMFTR), which explores the potential of anonymous digital therapy for individuals who face barriers to accessing psychotherapy due to stigmatization. Over the past 2.5 years, we have investigated the specific needs and requirements of people who experience high levels of stigma. Anonymization of live therapy conversations may help reduce these barriers.
