Introduction to Generative Audio Visualization in Unreal Engine

Niagara is Unreal Engine's next-generation VFX system. With Niagara, the technical artist has the ability to create additional functionality on their own, and create immersive experiences that react to audio and other input.

You will learn an overview of how to use particle systems and visualize audio in real-time. This workshop is meant to be an introduction to Niagara, designed to get your hands wet in real-time particle systems in Unreal Game Engine.

Throughout human history, the pursuit of visual immersion has driven fundamental innovations in art, technology, and spatial design— from the geometric principles of Renaissance perspective to the algorithmic architectures of contemporary real-time rendering. This workshop examines the historical and technological trajectory of immersive screen-based experiences, tracing key developments across painting, cinematography, projection mapping, volumetric display, and virtual reality.

Drawing on over two decades of professional practice at the convergence of music, live performance, and digital media, Cui offers a practitioner's perspective on the creative and technical challenges of designing audience-immersive visual environments, from large-scale festival stage production to real-time VFX development with Unreal Engine.
