Simran Gurdasani is a postdoctoral researcher at DESY in Zeuthen, working on the ATLAS experiment at CERN. She completed her PhD at the University of Freiburg in 2024, after earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the United States. Her background spans applied mathematics, experimental biophysics and particle physics, including contributions to silicon detector development for CMS and detector operations for ATLAS.
Her research combines experimental particle physics with machine learning to search for new phenomena, including dark matter and supersymmetry. She develops AI methods to identify particles and reconstruct their decays in collision data. Alongside this work, she contributes to more sustainable research practices through energy-efficient AI and has co-authored a study assessing the professional carbon footprints of researchers in high-energy physics and related fields. She is also a member of the yHEP Management Board, representing early-career researchers in Germany’s high-energy physics
