Sebastian Grote
Sebastian Grote is Head of Communications at the Helmholtz Association, Germany’s largest research organization. Serving at its Berlin offices, he is responsible for strategic communications and brand creation. He was previously in charge of communications at the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven, where he joined in numerous expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic as part of communication campaigns. In recognition of their communications to accompany the one-year-long Arctic expedition MOSAiC, he and his team won the BdKom Award in 2020. In 2023, he was nominated Research Speaker of the Year. After studying history and Scandinavian studies at the University of Cologne, University of Helsinki and Uppsala University, he returned to Cologne to complete a graduate trainee program in science communication.
