Erika B. Martínez Ruiz

Erika is an environmental toxicologist whose research focuses on how pollutants affect aquatic microscopic organisms. She comes from Mexico, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional. She completed her PhD in Environmental Microbiology at the Technische Universität Berlin and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries. Outside the lab, Erika is passionate about science communication and actively engages in outreach activities. Since 2023, she has been part of the organizing team for Soapbox Science Berlin.
