Forward, Backward, or Sideways... experience the decision ground, common sense, in arts and life.
Forward, Backward, or Sideways…
How decision spaces guide us, and why common sense does not only sometimes work.
As part of Berlin Science Week 2024, this event sheds light on "Decision-Making Spaces" and the influence of the past, present, and future on our capacity to act—in both theater and times of flight. The past shapes our options, the present often demands swift action, and the future remains uncertain but frequently filled with hopes.
The focus centers on how "common sense" guides our decisions and the mechanisms behind them. How do different experiences shape our decision-making space—both physically and mentally? In theater, the decision space is often clearly structured, while in the experience of flight, this space becomes chaotic and uncertain. Both scenarios demand quick decisions and raise questions: What happens when available choices are limited? Can decision-making be learned, or is it always a matter of the moment?
Through interactive elements and personal biographical insights, we explore how decision-making spaces shift and the role common sense plays within them. An "experience path" allows participants to feel the complexity of decision-making firsthand before experts discuss how their decision-making spaces have evolved.
This event invites us to question perspectives on decision-making and explore new approaches to handling unpredictable situations.
