Dylan Nelson

Dylan Nelson is an Emmy Noether Research Group Leader at the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, within the Center for Astrophysics (ITA/ZAH) of Heidelberg University, Germany. Previously, he served as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA) in Munich, Germany, and earned his PhD in astrophysics from the Center for Astronomy (CfA) at Harvard University. His research focuses on developing and analyzing theoretical and computational models of galaxy formation and evolution, with an emphasis on cosmic gas. He leads the IllustrisTNG Project and serves as Co-PI of TNG50, which involves next-generation large-volume cosmological magnetohydrodynamical simulations of galaxy formation and large-scale structure. Additionally, he is Co-PI of the new TNG-Cluster simulation, which studies high-mass galaxy clusters. Previously, he contributed to the Illustris Simulation, the predecessor of TNG.
