After studying at Central Saint Martin’s College of Art and Design in London and Design Academy Eindhoven, cultural producer Jeannette Petrik developed a curiosity for sound art, experimental noise and meditative practices. Under the artist name Chebedajha, they perform sound pieces and experimental DJ sets which rely on personal experiences of marginalisation and collectivity, exploring sound as a creative medium. Chebedajha’s experimental sound circles around intense states of anxiety and pleasure, discomfort and relief, and aims to sensitise perception. Since 2013, Petrik has been an active member of Dutch and German DIY, squatting and freetekno scenes. Since 2021, they’re a member of the New Centre for Research and Practice and a certificate student for Art and Curatorial Practices. In 2022, Petrik collectively wrote the libretto for the opera ‘To Fall Safely’, which premiered at the National Theatre of Bunswick. Their creative practice focuses on language and communication, sound art and noise, paired with a sense of collectivity and social responsibility.
