With the ECB concluding its investigation phase of the potential introduction of a digital euro in Q4 2023, it is time to take stock and consider the status quo: What design and distribution model for the digital euro are suggested, and what could be the impact within in the euro area? Likewise, what design features would enhance the usage of such a digital means of payment from the consumer’s perspective?
