The Digital Euro – Money for the 21st Century
Join us for an exciting in-person event at ICN Berlin!
The Digital Euro is here to revolutionize the way we handle money in the 21st century. Discover the future of finance as an expert discusses the potential of this digital currency. Like many central banks around the world, the European Central Bank (ECB) is considering the introduction of a digital euro in order to offer an electronic means of payment in the euro area. The hopes are that such a central bank digital currency (CBDC) will strengthen the euro area’s monetary sovereignty and enhance the efficiency of the European payments sector. Moreover, a digital euro would allow consumers to use the euro not only for offline transactions but to make electronic payments when shopping online. With the ECB concluding its investigation phase of the potential introduction of a digital euro in Q4 2023, it is time to take stock and consider the status quo: What design and distribution model for the digital euro are suggested, and what could be the impact within in the euro area? Likewise, what design features would enhance the usage of such a digital means of payment from the consumer’s perspective?
