Dr. Erika Martínez Ruiz comes from Mexico City, where she studied chemical-biological sciences at the Escuela Nacional de Ciencias Biológicas of the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN). In her PhD Thesis at the TU Berlin, she researched the cyanotoxin transformation by manganese-oxidizing bacteria and is now continuing her academic career at the IGB Leibniz , where she studies the impact of chemical pollution on the interaction of aquatic organisms, specifically chytrid parasites and their cyanobacterial host.
